Proposed Bill Crackdowns On Nashville Clubs

Metro Police and two councilmen, one of which is Adam Dread, have a plan to crack down on after hours clubs in Nashville

Metro Police and two councilmen have a plan to crack down on after hours clubs in Nashville, associated with at least one high-profile crime.

On the night of April 30, four people were injured in a shooting outside of Club Mystic on Second Avenue.

The night was supposed to be a celebration for Nashville teens but instead shed new attention to crime in downtown Nashville.

Metro Councilmen Adam Dread and Mike Jameson have introduced a bill that would force any club, that charges people to drink on the premises, to be held to the same standard as Nashville bars, restaurants and clubs that sell their own alcohol.

The bill would give Metro Police the authority to spot-check the establishment for violations.

Dread told the City Paper, "I'm not letting thugs run our bars."

Club Mystic lost its lease in the aftermath of that shooting.

Jimmy Brook owns the club. He said, “It's not fair that I take all the blame for the crime going on in the downtown area just because my club is filled with 80% African Americans… I feel that is what the issue is.”

Under the bill, clubs like Club Mystic would have to register with Metro Codes.
